Pregnancy Update: 17 Weeks

It's official! 17 weeks and 3 days along and we couldn't be happier. :) It's so crazy to think that we're already this far along, it seems like just yesterday that I found out I was pregnant and now we're two weeks away from finding out if this little friend is a boy or a girl! Part of me gets sad thinking that it's going by so fast, but the other part of me is anxious to not be pregnant anymore... not so much to be a mommy yet, I've still got some mental preparation to go for that. ;)
But anyway, here we are! Pregnancy updates from these past few weeks... because this baby has been going through one heck of a growth spurt!

How Big is the Belly?
Here it is, in all its glory! I swear, when people say that it'll just "pop out" overnight... they are NOT kidding! On Monday I felt kind of big-ish... we went to the river with some friends for Memorial Day and went tubing, which was SO much fun! That morning I put on my swimsuit and I remember thinking to myself, "Wow, I'm actually still fitting into this really nicely!" but as the day progressed I ended up having to sneakily unbutton the top buttons on my board shorts to give my belly a little bit of room. That night I remember telling Taylor, "Man, today is the first day that I ever really had to alter my clothes for my belly, I must be getting bigger..." The next day was the exact same. I had to unbutton my shorts basically the whole day... and then Wednesday morning came around and I stepped out of the shower and noticed, BAM! This is why my clothes have been tight, this little guy had SOME growth spurt!
To compare, here is a picture I took Wednesday morning (at exactly 17 weeks)...
...and here is one I took exactly a week before at 16 weeks.
Not the most dramatic difference, but you can definitely tell I've plumped up a bit more now and that belly needs NO help being seen! ;) It's all very exciting.

How Big is Baby?
Right now the baby is about 5 inches long and weighs about five ounces. He or she must have been experiencing some growth spurt because not only has mommy's tummy popped out, but any time she makes any sudden movements like turning over in bed or stepping out of a car her stretching ligaments and muscles cramp up. Baby is moving and growing and has started honing survival skills it will need out of the womb, such as sucking and swallowing.

How Have I Been Feeling?
I have actually been feeling pretty great! A little bit achy and if I don't eat enough or stay hydrated  during the day I get pretty bad migraines at night, but dude... I will take ALL of that over being nauseas at all hours of the day and night! I'm starting to feel like some of my energy is coming back to me... like, all of the productivity and motivation that I lost during my first trimester that hurt me so much in school? Yeah... wasn't just me. ;) Also, food is starting to taste good again and my appetite is returning a little bit. Basically, I'm just starting to feel like myself again. It's good to be back (for however long I'm here to stay ;)).

Any Food Cravings/Aversions?
Yes actually! My same old rule of thumb still applies where most of my cravings come in the moment (like I'll be pretty neutral and then someone will either start talking about a certain food or will start eating a certain food and suddenly THAT is what I have to have), but for the most part I really just crave carbs. Bread and pasta ALWAYS sounds amazing, and chicken never sounds bad either, and after I eat a meal I always have to have something sweet and so I've tried really hard to keep our refrigerator stocked up with lots of fruit! Gosh I need to stop writing about pasta... now I'm craving it for lunch... ;)

Any Sleep Problems?
Just those same weird dreams. Except a few times now I have had some pretty crazy and realistic nightmares that I am NOT a huge fan of! Like, the night before last I had dreams with friends that I miss and haven't talked to in a while all yelling at me because we haven't talked and telling me I was stupid for getting pregnant and I'm not a good friend anymore and this is  why they hate me now... REALLY pregnant brain? You're going to play on real emotions and insecurities here? That's a low blow, really low. And this morning Taylor came in to give me a kiss goodbye before he went to work. He bent down, gave me a kiss, I woke up a little, smiled, and said, "Hey, before you go, how bad is the situation with Rylee, is she going to be okay?" He was bewildered but he's been living with pregnant me for a while now... he likes to see how these things will play out. ;) "What do you mean, Jadyn?" "Well..." I started, "I just barely over heard you on the phone with 9-1-1 saying that Rylee cut herself on her leg and keeps chewing it and had lost a lot of blood..." even as I said it I could tell how ridiculous I sounded... "That was a dream wasn't it?" He just laughed, kissed me again, and said, "Yeah babe, it was definitely a dream... you need to go back to sleep." Ha! At least the dog is okay and my husband has an awesome sense of humor. ;)

Any Stretch Marks?
Yes! ...but not where I expected them to come. My belly has seen many of great Thanksgiving dinner so she's taking all of this in stride! But my boobs? The poor girls haven't seen an ounce of growth since like... Junior High. it didn't take long for some lovely tiger stripes to start forming on the little wimps. ;) I'm cool with it though. Boobs aren't exactly a body part that you're walking around with all hanging out for the world to see... they're pretty much always covered unless you want to get arrested, so basically no one will ever have to see them. ;)

Weight Gain?
Actually, no! I have been shocked by this one. My weight has always fluctuated with about a 3-5 pound radius around 120 lbs, and every time I have gone to the doctor I haven't strayed above 120 at ALL! I'm not complaining, I mean... this is the weight I've been forever, but I have been told that I'm going to be packin' on some pounds in my second trimester and it worries me just a little that I'm still right where I've always been... who knows, maybe with this growth spurt things will finally start to be to where they're supposed to.

Any Mile Stones?
YES! Aside from the showing belly and the stretch marks and the food aversions going away... I FINALLY FELT THE BABY MOVE!!!! I have seriously been waiting for this for SO long! Whenever somebody would ask me how far along I was they'd always respond with, "Oh my gosh! Then you've probably already felt the baby move haven't you?" ......no.....no I hadn't, but thank you for rubbing it in. But this morning I got up and felt something kind of strange in my lower abdomen... like the feeling you get right before your stomach is about to growl. So I figured I was just hungry. So I walked into the family room and sat down and thought to myself, "Wait! What if this isn't my stomach???" So I concentrated and I kid you not... I felt what felt like a hand and a foot or something like that reach up, slide over, and come back down! It was the craziest thing I have ever experienced! It didn't feel like a "flutter" or "butterflies" like most people said it would, to me it felt more like a gas bubble or like my stomach was about to grumble... but either way, I felt it! I felt it, it's alive in there, I actually AM pregnant. :)

What Am I Most Looking Forward To?
My birthday. On my birthday I will be exactly 19 weeks and we will be finding out the gender of this little stinker! :D My bets are still on it being a boy, but I guess we'll find out a week from Next Wednesday!

Oh, Jadyn, I've been trying SO hard not to happy-squeal through this whole post!! I'm just so excited for you. :^D
And congrats on feeling the baby move! That's the best. :^)
(not that I know firsthand, but I do have 5 younger siblings, so I've felt baby movements to SOME extent.;^))
